Tom Hardy, who plays the otherworldly lethal protector in the supervillain film, gave a career-high performance. The film surpassed Black Widow’s record of $80 million theatrical debuts in July. Looking at the opening weekend, it won’t be wrong to say that this supervillain sequel will eventually turn out to be the top grosser of 2021.

Apart from Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Black Widow, $75 million debut grosser Shang-Chi and $70 million debut grosser F9: Fast and Furious have had the highest openings in the middle of the pandemic. It’s interesting to see that among ticket purchasers, over 55 percent of buyers belong to the age group below 25.

Interestingly, Venom’s sequel wasn’t the sole big earner during the opening weekend. Recently, filmmaker Andy Serkis, who helmed Venom’s sequel, shared his plans of a trilogy looking at the box office results. He expressed how he is crafting his ideas and is looking forward to creating something soon for a potential third part.
