Under the initiative of Welcome.US, three former presidents of US have come together to aid the refugees that have been evacuated from Afghanistan and now living in US as refugees.
Announcing support for the refugees from Afghanistan, three former US presidents have come together along with their wives to become part of the initiative named Welcome US, a coalition with stakeholders from US businesses, advocacy groups and other leaders.
On Tuesday, the coalition launched a website that will help Americans to donate, host refugee families, orany other possible kind of help that they want to extend to refugees. This website will act as a single point of entry and make it convenient and seamless for US citizens to lend their helping hands. The information was given by John Bridgeland, co-chair of the group behind this initiative. Bridgeland had served as an official in the administration headed by former President George W. Bush. It’s important to note that the US has evacuated many Afghanistan citizens from the war-torn country and these people are now living in US as refugees.
Exhorting US nationals to come forward for help, Bush and his wife appealed to citizens to extend all possible help to Afghan refugees who stood with them for making the world a safe place. According to organizers, help is pouring in from all quarters as both republican and democratic governors have become a signatory to this movement. Many prominent state and local leaders in the US have already said that they will welcome refugees with open arms to their communities although the issue of immigration continues to remain one of the contentious subjects in US society.
Under the Governance of former President Donald, the US witnessed the sharpest decline in immigration with the number of refugees admitted to the country came down to its lowest levels. Welcome.US initiative has more than 280 people and entities to its kitty including the likes of Microsoft, CVS Health Corp, and Starbucks among others.
