Chai Pani is an Indian restaurant in North Carolina, America that serves authentic and affordable Indian street food.
The Asheville eatery recently won the award of America’s most Outstanding restaurant by the James Beard Foundation Awards in Chicago. This Indian restaurant beat the popular nominee like Brennan’s in New Orelans and grabbed the award.
This award ceremony was held after two years as the last two years awards were canceled due to Covid-19. Unlike the past few years where the awards recipients were either from Chicago or New York, this year there was more geographic variety among the award recipients.
With the digital medium spreading so fact, Indian cuisines have made a name for themselves globally. Everyone loves to have Indian food, ranging from snacks to main course items. The restaurant name Chai-Pani translates into Tea and Water. The menu of the restaurant includes an Indian snack called ”chaat” which is a mix of spicy, tangy, and sweet flavour.
There were many other awards like Outstanding Baker which was given to Don Guerra at Barrio in Tucson, Arizona, and Outstanding Chef was awarded to Mashama Bailey of They Grey in Savannah.
Vice President of Awards, Dawn Padmore mentioned that our foundation did a “deep dive” on itself during the gap time.
She also said that looking at so many different people in the audience feels so different. She further said that it is all about reflecting the true diversity of the industry.
