The authorities have decided to impose fresh restrictions in Putian as the city battles rise in the fresh cases of Covid-19.
China is battling against the surging cases of Coronavirus once again with Putian city in its southeastern province Fujian imposing a slew of new restrictions on its citizens and businesses including sealing the entry and exit points of the city and closing gyms and cinemas. The situation in the city is very serious and according to the state news broadcasters CCTV, more Covid cases are likely to emerge from the schools, communities, and factories. Many schools suspended offline lessons even as the National Health Authority of China sent a team of experts to Putian city which is having a total population of 3.2-million.
According to the statistics, a total of 43 cases have been detected in the Fujian between 10th September and 12th September. The number includes 35 cases belonging to Putian, thereby forcing the authorities to take serious stock of the situation. Mainland China, on the other hand, recorded 95,248 confirmed cases as of 12th September with a cumulative death toll of 4,636.
The last outbreak of Covid-19 in China ended about two weeks ago as no more local cases were reported from the eastern province of the country. The outbreak lasted for around a month and the test report of the affected persons in the Putian city show that most of them have been contracted with highly transmissible Delta variant of Coronavirus. The initial infections were tracked to elementary students in Putian’s Xianyou county and experts suspect that this outbreak might be caused by the parent of a student who visited the county after coming from Singapore.
Xianyou has taken a precautionary approach and sealed areas where authorities suspect the outbreak of a new variant. Besides, a fresh testing drive to curb the further spread of the infection has also been initiated. The State Media also said that taxi and bus services in the county have been halted and passengers have been barred from using the train station. Putian also stated on Sunday that it will close its all-indoor entertainment venues including the gyms, museums, internet cafes, cinemas, and libraries to make sure the spread of the infection is contained. Besides, the opening and closing hours of the restaurants will also shorten to effectively tackle the new virus.
